Caring for Your Bag

Have you ever ruined one of you favorite handbags? Devastation! But the fact of the matter is, handbags get abused. They end up on the floor, under the table, shoved into desks, thrown across the front seat of the car and filled with things one should NEVER put in a bag. Makeup spills, food soils and perfume disasters happen all too often. Dust, dirt, grime, grease, pen marks, fading, water, environment, and a host of other things can quickly ruin your prized possession. It doesn’t matter how much you paid for your handbag, the bottom line is you love it and want to keep it. So what’s a gal to do?

Take a few precautions and learn to clean and care for your bag like the sweet shoulder sugar that it is! Proper care of your handbag may not be first on your mind, but if you’ve ever had to replace that all too perfect bag (not too big, not too small, just the right amount of pockets) then you know the importance of proper handbag care.

Here are a few tips on how to care for your bag:

1) Never place your bag on the floor or stuff it into a drawer. Use a clean surface like a table top, desk top or shelf to set your bag down, or hang it over the back of a chair, a door knob, coat hook or rack.

2) Invest in a purse hanger. These use counter wieght physics and a flat surface so your bag can hang conveniently from a table, desk or counter.

3) Use a make up bag or purse organizer to carry your spillables in. Make sure pens and the like are properly capped or placed in pocket protectors to keep them from leeking or marking your bag.

4) Clean out the inside of your purse daily. Its not hard to slip things in there that shouldn't be when you're in a hurry, so take a moment to dump your bag when you get home to keep things from spoiling or damaging your bag.

5) Get your bags repaired as soon as the damage occurs. The longer you leave a rip in a pocket or a broken zipper or snap, the harder it is to repair it and the damage may become irepairable.

6) Never throw your bag into the washing machine or dryer and do not over clean your bag. Most bags can be easily spot cleaned provided you are following the care instructions properly. Not all fabrics are alike and will require different treatments. Below is a list of different bag exteriors and how to clean them. If you are not sure what your bag is made of, ask a local handbag sales or repair person.

Remember, there are many great products on the market now to keep your handbag looking new and in good repair, so check your labels, use the proper products for your bag and you will be able to enjoy your bag for years to come!
